Limetree Avenue Update9th Sept 2009
Update on progress that has been made in resolving some issues that have been brought to our attention by local people. The grass verge at the top of Limetree Avenue near the roundabout has now been cut and Roads Service has included this area in their routine schedule of five grass cuttings per year along this road. We have asked Roads Service to increase the frequency of grass cutting on Limetree Avenue but present policy does not allow for more cuttings. Lisburn Council is writing to Roads Service asking for this policy to be reviewed as it is in our view insufficient, particularly for residential areas. We had also received complaints that the trees along Limetree Avenue adjacent to the footpath have become overgrown making it difficult to walk along the path. This is obviously an inconvenience and presents a safety issue when people have to walk on the road. After contacting Roads Service asking them to take action an inspection has been carried out and 140 trees along the road have been identified as requiring 'crown lifting' i.e. branches cut to allow people to walk under them. Lisburn Roads Service has made this a priority case and is currently bidding for funds to do this work as it will cost in the region of £5,000. As your public representatives we will continue to put pressure on Roads Service to carry out this work as soon as possible.
